Counseling Center
The Counseling Center provides short-term, in-person counseling free of charge to students (see the
Counseling (Personal) section).
Uwill
As an alternative to the Counseling Center on campus, Maryville College provides virtual counseling through
Uwill at no cost at the time of the visit. This service allows students to choose their therapist based on preferences such as gender, language, ethnicity, or focus. Uwill therapy can be provided outside of regular business hours and on student academic breaks. They have therapists across the United States and internationally if a student decides to travel abroad. Uwill has a 24/7/365 helpline at
833.646.1526 for those students who are experiencing a mental health crisis, or some level of distress.
Emergency Medical Care
In the event of a student illness or injury that requires emergency care, one option for students is to access treatment at Prisma Health Blount Memorial Hospital, located directly across Highway 321 from the main entrance to the College. Additionally, there are a number of urgent care centers in Maryville. Emergency room visits are not covered by the Maryville College health fee and must be paid by the student or filed with personal insurance. Call 865.981.8112 (Safety and Security) or 865.981.8002 (Staff Member on Duty) for assistance.
Non-Emergency Medical Care
River Valley Health (RVH) is Maryville College’s primary healthcare partner for students! Through this partnership, students can now receive quick access to high-quality, comprehensive medical services. RVH’s Alcoa Health Center has same-day primary care appointments available for students. Whether students prefer to meet with a medical professional in-person or virtually, RVH is prepared to help students optimize their health. RVH also has an on-site pharmacy that can provide students with medications. Services are available for everyone, regardless of health insurance status. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, sliding scale fees are available to help offset the costs of services.
Communicable Illnesses
The College will respond to cases of communicable illness on an individual basis in close consultation with an advising physician and/or salient regional/state departments of health. Maryville College will not exclude persons with contagious illnesses from initial enrollment or access to College facilities or services without a medically-based judgment by the consulting physicians and/or health department. Any individual made aware of a communicable illness on campus is to consult with the Assistant Dean of Students regarding College procedures and proper health care. Confidentiality will be strictly observed. For further information, call 865.981.8215.
