EXS 399 Building Healthy Communities

This capstone course will examine societal challenges and solutions that affect communities across the nation. We will discuss concepts related to physical activity promotion, healthy nutrition, and mental health behaviors, along with broader topics concerning a sense of purpose, belonging, and integration within larger communities. Additionally, the course will cover discussions on Appalachian health, health disparities, access challenges, and environmental sustainability. Students will engage in experiential learning by conducting a community needs assessment and developing evidence-based programs. In addition, students will reflect on their personal health practices and create a personalized health ethic, fostering lifelong well-being. (3 credit hours)
