Maryville College Works - Transition to Course-Based Tracking in 2022-23

Note to Current MC Students: COMING SOON!

As you may be aware, the College is transitioning the tracking of your progress through the Maryville College Works (MCW) program from the 10-step checklist that you view on the Tartan to a course-based model. The courses  that have MCW components embedded are the following:

  • FYS 110 - First-Year Seminar
  • XXX 299/399 - Either a course in the major (examples: PSY 299 for Psych majors, CHM 399 for Chem majors) OR MCW 299
  • XXX 337 - To track SPE completion, either an internship in the major area (e.g. INT 337 for International Business majors), OR MCW 337 for those who use their senior study as their SPE, OR OVS 337 for those who use their study abroad as their SPE
  • MCW 400 - Senior Year Seminar

For students who started under the checklist model but will finish under the course-based model, here is a simple chart to show you what you can expect based on when you started at MC:

Later this summer (2022), we will add the appropriate class to your fall or spring schedule. For this transition year, we are delivering the new courses online and in some cases there will be in-person sections you can switch to if you prefer. You can take care of any changes you want to make to your schedule this August before classes start. Your academic adviser and your staff in the Career Center can answer questions you have about this transition.

Bottom line, the requirements for MCW are not changing:

Specific requirements for the program include:

·       Completion of a career-related career assessment and discussion of results with academic advisor

·       Planning and engaging in a significant practical experience

·       Completion of a career readiness educational program

·       Submission of a final reflection

Here is what the 2022-23 Catalog will say about how we will track your completion of MCW:

To satisfy this program, students will complete FYS 110, a 299/399 course, a 337 course, and MCW 400, or approved equivalents.
