ENG 211 Young Adult Literature

An introduction to the multiple genres of young adult literature. This course examines the historical development of literature written for and about young adults; develops an awareness of issues surrounding the use and teaching of young adult literature; and explores instructional strategies for incorporating young adult literature in the classroom. Literary excellence in young adult literature, and current issues and controversies in the field will be discussed. Possible topics include Coming of Age Novels, the Multicultural Experience in Adolescent Literature, and Fantasy and Science Fiction. Course topics may change with each offering. (3 credit hours)
